Best wishes expressed below from the BCU Marathon Racing Committee – Mentions for our Longridge paddlers Alex Lane and Andrew Daniels.

Good luck to the GB team heading out to the European Canoe Marathon Champs, which start on Thursday. You can follow results etc at http://piraguismo.pontevedra.gal/en/ (not sure if there will be live streaming)

In the Junior and U23 events (on Thursday/Friday), Freya Peters(Richmond) and Emma Russell (Chelmsford) race the JWK2, Joe Petersen(Banbury) and Charlie Smith (Leighton Buzzard) the JMK1, Alex Lane(Longridge) the U23WK1 and Lewis Duffield (Chelsmford) and Zyggy Chmiel (Nottingham) the U23MK1. This is a strong, young team many of whom are in their first or second years of their respective classes and some are making their first appearance at a major international.

*Over the weekend, our senior team is a mix of the very experienced and new talent. James Russell and Pete Wilkes (both Chelmsford) have made the senior men’s K2 team after a great 2nd place at Burton, and a winter of working hard towards this goal. They will be hoping to do more than ride shotgun to Andrew Daniels (Longridge) and Tim Pendle (Norwich), who will be hoping to at least match their european K2 bronze medal of a couple of years ago.*

Lizzie Broughton (Richmond) is our team’s most successful athlete in recent years, and again doubles up in women’s K1, and K2 with fellow 2013 European Champion Fay Lamph (Wey). After a couple of seasons of domestic men’s K1 dominance, Keith Moule (Chelmsford) will be hoping to cement his place among the elite european group at this championship.

Longridge Canoe Club extend our further wishes of good luck to all the paddlers.
