The longer distance paddlers set-off at 10am from 'The Flower Pot' (Aston Village (nr Henley)), setting a good but social pace downstream with the target of reaching Longridge by 11am. Cheered along with some Christmas tunes and chatter, we ticked-off the lock portages at Hurley, Temple and Marlow and after 6 miles pulled into Longridge.
With the remaining paddlers launching here, all ready to go, the now larger group set off for the next leg spot on the planned 11am (a session starting on time - now there's a first!). Volume turned-up we were 'rocking' our way to Cookham, and turned around the road bridge for the final approach into Bourne End.
A really enjoyable group paddle with a varied mix of paddlers in K1s and K2s, and various hats and decorations from Santas, to Elves, Antlers and Fairy Wings.
Pulling into Bourne End it was a short walk to the pub and to meet with the walkers and non-paddlers for a pleasant chat, a few drinks and a lovely lunch. The pub had saved us a side room, thankfully we had pre-warned them that we might be wet and wearing fragrances of 'eau d'river'. After the pub a few of the intrepid paddled back to the Club, those who had organised dry-clothes and transport got a lift home.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
