Longridge Canoe Club hosted the last of the Southern Region's Hasler races for the 2018/2019 season. There was fantasic racing, amazing weather and all put together by a fantasic group of volunteers.
About 260 paddlers took to the water, with the youngest, some under 10, competeting over a 2.5km course; and the main Divisional races held over 6.8km, 13.3km and 20km courses.
Some new arrangements were put together this year with a new site layout, new catering, and changes to the podium prize-giving. The event was hailed as a success and sets a very high benchmark to exceed next year.
There were some top-level atheletes from 27 different clubs from across and beyond the region, some clubs entering over 30 paddlers each. Longridge saw 24 of its members representing the host Club, in their blue & yellow colours, some for their first ever race, and the team produced some great results. On the day, Longridge taking the 3rd place spot for Club Points in the regional scores, and with no less than 10 Longridge paddlers making their way on to the podium.
