'The Big Paddle Clean Up'

Great effort from Longridge Canoe Club members who took part this week in 'The Big Paddle Clean Up', part of the Clear Access, Clear Waters campaign with British Canoeing.

A massive thank you to club members Maddy P and Mike T who organised the two extra sessions, on Wednesday evening and Saturday lunch time, for plastic & litter picking along the sections of the River Thames between Marlow weir and Bourne End railway bridge.

We covered about 5 miles of river bank in total, with downstream from our base at the Longridge Activity Centre mostly being pretty clear of rubbish (great news!). It seems though that much of the plastic waste gets caught in pockets along the weir stream and around 'Longridge Corner', our own normal launching area.

"...now knowing where the plastic tends to collect, we can do some effective targeted clean-ups, and hopefully educate some river users that are possibly the source of a good number plastic bottles."
