3 introduction/taster sessions for non-members

Upcoming Sessions

  • 90 British pounds

More Information

You're going to be taken safely through an introduction to flat water racing kayaks, and learn a bit about the boats we use and our canoe club. We'll cover how to be safe and comfortable on the river, recognise the risks and manage the risks in a sensible way. The cost *includes* use of a club kayak for the session, paddles and personal floatation device (buoyancy aid). Through Longridge Canoe Club you will have the neccesary 3rd-party liability insurance and Thames River License for your time on the water. Each session (and there will be three) will be about 90 minutes long, with up to 3 hours on the water overall. We'll be mindful of the weather and river conditions, so we'll always be adapting to the circumstances to ensure your safety and comfort. By the end of the course we aim to have you armed with the necessary basic skills and control to be able to steer, start and stop the boat; you'll be starting to understand that there are plenty of paddling skills involved to enable your body to power the boat with efficiency, and we hope that you will gain enough information to understand what the sport is about to want to engage in it further. After the 'Start Award' the next Course is our 'Paddle Discover Award'
